Caitlin Pierce is Lady Chiller’s owner and operator.

Caitlin created Lady Chiller out of a desire for connection— both to the Richmond community and to her own labor after several years of working remotely. She has more than a decade of experience in audio production as an award-winning producer, story editor, and creator of the indie reality dating podcast Hang Up. That work prepared her to create a production workflow committed to excellence— but she did have to learn to operate a bandsaw.

OUR PROCESS

We use water that is filtered through a Coconut Shell Activated Carbon Block to NSF/ANSI standards, and placed in machines that use a directional freezing method that freezes the ice from the bottom up. This method results in 300LB blocks of ice that are perfectly clear.

The blocks are then taken out of the machine with a uniquely designed hoist, then left to temper for about an hour before they are ready to be cut. Each individual ice cube is cut by hand with a food grade bandsaw, then put on a cooled tray and left to freeze overnight.

Finally, the cubes are packed and delivered weekly directly to your freezer in single layer plastic bags that are easily stackable, allowing for efficient storage without damage to the cubes.
